The time for gift giving is upon us and I have a fantastic recommendation for the perfect holiday gift. You guys know I don’t just recommend anything that comes my way — I have to really like it to give my stamp of approval and feel a certain level of excitement to recommend it to others. So, this watch you see here made it to my blog for a reason. I love the style, it is high quality, it comes presented in a beautiful cedar box, and there is just something about wearing a natural material against your skin that makes for a joyful experience.
Jord (pronounced Yode) is based in St. Louis, where they are constantly developing new designs. The watches are a sophisticated mix of natural, and largely re-claimed materials, combined with quality movements and components. The one I wear (Frankie35 Series) is made of dark sandalwood with mint face and I feel it goes really well with my naturalist/modern style (skinny jeans, comfy sweaters, boots, and a few meaningful accessories that are typically inspired by nature).

I’ve never considered myself a “watch person” and honestly haven’t even worn a watch in about a decade. I’ve been in the habit of using my phone to check the time for SO many years. And it seems, increasingly so. Sometimes I find myself checking my phone “just for the time” a few dozen times per day. Once the phone is in my hand, before I know it, I’ve opened Instagram, or email, or one of too many other apps, and I’ve wasted 20 minutes here, or 15 minutes there. This is not helpful when you have a hefty to-do list.
I’ve also dealt with anxiety for much of my life and noticed the hundreds of notifications I was receiving each day (and feeling like I had to check every single one) was really adding to my sense of anxiety. About six weeks ago I turned off all my notifications in an effort to not check the phone as much during the day (I think we can all relate to the addictive and overwhelming cycle of checking notifications nonstop). I haven’t turned the notifications back on yet, but am still on my phone too much.
Just a few weeks ago I found myself wishing I had a watch so that I could turn my phone off for an hour here or there, or go for a walk and leave the phone at home but still know how long I’d been out on the trail etc. To disconnect more, without completely losing my place in the day. Literally a few days later I was contacted by Jord to see if I’d be interested in testing out one of their wood watches. Of course, I said yes!
I never thought wearing a watch could actually help my anxiety, but it has. Since wearing this one I’ve noticed a sense of relief that I don’t have to have my phone on my person 100% of the time. I’ve had multiple people comment on how beautiful it is since wearing it and think the mint colored face on this one is truly something! Though there are SO many gorgeous watches on the Jord website, seriously – check them out. There are a lot of watches out there in the world, but not all are created equal. These ones are a good addition to your life, trust me.
It is very comfortable to wear and fits perfectly (watches are sized for the recipient). The wood is sanded to a velvety soft finish and they also include a bit of oil and polishing cloth to keep it in top shape over the years. I keep that, along with the extra wristband links in the little drawer in the bottom of the cedar humidor box it comes in. Seriously such a nice box! Both the lid and the drawer close magnetically, by the way. It is a nice enough box to display as a jewelry box on one’s shelf or dresser top. Everything Jord does, they do with great craftsmanship. If you give one of these as a gift, it will make quite an impression. Speaking of which, most watch backplates can be engraved! All Cedar humidor presentation boxes are engravable, as well.
A few more awesome details…
- Most watches have additional options for customization — mixing and matching faces and woods!
- Every watch comes with a one year warranty and options for return & exchange.
- Free worldwide standard shipping!
As someone who not only loves to read but MUST read a lot for work, I find that I can focus and get more done when turning my phone off for an hour or two. If I still need to check the time I can glance a the beautiful mint face of this Jord watch. The color, honestly makes me smile every time I see it! The mint color, depending on the light or the colors it is next to can look a little more green, or a little more blue. It really feels like an accessory, not just a timepiece.
Of course as a major book nerd I had to search my bookshelves for a cover that would go with the mint color! 🙂
Though I love this watch, I also love the look of their Fieldcrest watch in maple (generally, I love the look of light hardwoods in my home decor etc. and would love to style a lighter wood watch with some of my colorful beaded bracelets). If you’re looking for something a bit more sunny, check that one out!
