I’m always for trying products that are supposed to calm and soften my skin. My sensitive skin, much like my nerves, can always benefit from a bit of calming ingredients. The new Jurlique Activating Water Essence starts to relax me before I even put it on my skin by merely looking at it’s beautifully simple bottle. The smooth, frosted 150ml glass cylinder is minimal, modern, and indicative of the soothing plant-based water infusion it houses.

I’ve been using the new Jurlique Activating Water Essence every day for almost three weeks and it has become a welcome addition to my skincare routine. Only after a few days I noticed my skin felt softer and a bit smoother. I pour a few drops on to my hand and then blend and press into my face, after cleansing, but before moisturizing. If I’m going to use a serum, I apply this before that too.

The formula contains organically grown Marshmallow Root extract (which has been used since Ancient Egyptian timesn and is known for it’s healing and moisturizing properties), Peach Leaf extract, Witch Hazel, and botanical extracts of Calendula, Rosemary, Lavender, Nettle, Sage, Peppermint Leaf, Melissa Leaf, Yarrow, and Marjoram. These botanicals all help to condition the skin. I find this formula does help my skin retain moisture slightly better than when I’m not using it.

There isn’t much I can think of that would improve this product. Is it an absolutely necessary step that you must add to your skincare routine? No, of course not. Most of the things I talk about on this blog aren’t necessary. But it sure does add an extra moment of beauty to my day, twice a day, when I use it. It enhances my skincare routine by prepping the skin to receive any serum or moisturizers I layer on next. And it may just be the thing that helps my skin retain moisture a bit better this winter. xo – Naomi
