Hello lovelies. If you don’t yet follow me on my YouTube Channel, you might not know that I participated in NaNoWriMo this month. What’s that you ask? National Novel Writing Month. People from all over the world participate in trying to write at least 50,000 words during the month of November. I’ve been a writer for years, but this is the first time I participated in such a thing. NaNoWriMo whipped me into shape! Writing shape, that is. I became lazy and was not in the habit of writing consistently anymore, so this was the perfect chance to get motivated and show myself I could be disciplined enough to write every day for 30 days. I filmed a wrap up video today. Watch it here or down below.

50,000 words is daunting, and I wasn’t even sure if I’d be able to write that much in a month. Instead of stressing over that though, I focused on writing daily and having fun with it. It was hard to put my inner editor away and just purely write. Editing will come later! I was getting kinda burned out in week 4 but then I realized I wasn’t that far from reaching the goal. So I managed to get in the zone, hit the warp-speed button and finished a day early! I did NOT see that coming. There is still much to do on this novel (it is YA Fantasy, by the way), but now I’m motivated to keep working on it in the coming months.

I do have an MFA in Creative Writing, but I honestly just didn’t feel like writing much in the years after earning that degree. However, being part of the NaNoWriMo community completely rekindled my love and excitement about writing. I have once again embraced the fact that I am a writer. It was also pretty fun knowing that thousands of other writers around the globe were working on their novels at the same time.

I’m not sure how many of you that follow this blog are interested in such things (I know this has mostly been a natural beauty blog), but if you do happen to be a writer, or also took part in NaNoWriMo then I would love to hear about your own experiences with writing in the comments below. Let me know what you’re working on! In 2017 I intend to sprinkle in more book related content on the blog, in addition to the natural beauty content. Books are a major part of my life. Both fiction and nonfiction. Let me know if that is something that excites you or not. xo – Naomi
