It’s been a while since I’ve posted! I was super busy this month as I released a new collection of lockets and hair adornments for Violette & Iris. But I’m back with a review and swatches of the new Burt’s Bees lipsticks! I’ve had more than a month to try them out and have some good, and some not so good things to say about them.

I tried seven of the 14 colors they released and some of them I absolutely love, but a few of the darker shades are … meh. I can only speak about the colors I tried, but here are my main observations:

Finish/Formula: These have a satin finish that I really love. It feels kind of glossy/balmy (similar to Mineral Fusion Lip Crayons) and does keep lips very moisturized. They are very smooth and feel great on lips. However they claim that these are full coverage, but I wouldn’t call them that. They are more like 3/4 coverage if that makes sense. For the lighter shades I love this – but a few of the darker shades such as Juniper Water it didn’t have very even coverage and just didn’t look great. This shade really fell flat for me and I didn’t even include it in the swatches on my lips because I just couldn’t get it to look good on my lips. It was patchy and feathered. I really had high hopes for that shade too so it was disappointing. On the other hand the shade Tulip Tide is one of my new favorites and I’ve been wearing it everywhere.

Scent: These have a floral scent that when I first uncapped them I thought I wouldn’t like. The more I used them the less it bothered me though. The scent wears off pretty fast after applying and it didn’t give me a headache. Still, for some this might be a big negative.

Design: Very cute packaging with honeycomb design which is made of recycled plastic and is recyclable. Lightweight.

Overall: These are very moisturizing and the light to medium shades provide beautiful color but the darkest colors aren’t good for creating a defined lip look.

My favorites of these are Tulip Tide (cool tone light pink), Lily Lake (a pretty mauve), and Magenta Rush (bold magenta).

It is easy to just add a touch of color with these, using them as a sort of stain instead of trying to go for a bold and defined look. I applied several layers to get the swatches for these photos you see – to show you how bold the can be, but I like using just one layer of them in my real life. $9 is a great price, but I would avoid their two darkest shades and these aren’t for those looking for fragrance-free products.

Thank you for this. I’ve seen these advertised and have been wanting to give them a try. $9 is a great price especially compared to other natural brands, but enough that I didn’t want to risk not liking it.
I appreciate the time and work you put into getting this information together. I like you’re format.

I am testing this Burt’s Bees lipsticks since I love natural products. I find it very easy to use and it looks real good on my lips. These lipsticks surely made an impact on me that I like to buy some more lipsticks from Burt’s Bees. Your review help me a lot to decide on what color shadesI will get on my next purchase. Thank you

Hi Lorraine, I do not see a previous comment asking this. Where did you ask? These shades are mostly warm tone, though I suppose lily lake has somewhat of a cooler tone. Hope that helps.
