This month Juice Beauty released their much anticipated Phyto-Pigments makeup collection in collaboration with Gwyneth Paltrow (who is actually their new creative director of makeup). I’ve been a fan of Juice Beauty since I first tried some of their products three years ago and was so excited to finally see some new stuff from them, including lots of new colors to play with! They released 14 new products for this collection, six of which I’ve tried so far and have swatched for you below. These cosmetics are rich in antioxidants, vegan and formulated without gluten, slicones, talc, acrylates, parabens, glycols, PEGs, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances. They get their colors from plant-derived pigments instead of artificial dyes. Cool huh?

Juice Beauty new Phyto-Pigments makeup review and swatches

One of the first things I noticed about all these items as I unboxed and uncapped them was that they have absolutely no scent. Which is a really, really good thing if you have any sensitivities to scent and prefer fragrance-free products.

New Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Illuminating Primer and Flawless Serum Foundation
IMG_2550

Illuminating Primer – First impressions… I absolutely love it. I’ve found very few primers that I like and that I’ll actually use. But this one I’ve used three times in a row already and is quickly becoming a favorite. It is formulated with coconut alkanes instead of silicones. It is a glowy serum consistency and helps give a lit from within look while prepping skin for foundation.

Flawless Serum Foundation – Being a huge fan of their Perfecting Foundation, I had high hopes for this and it did not disappoint. They created 10 shades for this and I tried it in 08 Cream. A little goes a long way one and a half pumps will do the whole face. I used a thick foundation brush by Tarte (because I hardly ever use foundation brushes and figured why not) and the result was a very flawless, full coverage look once I really blended it out. The coverage was almost a little too much compared to what I’m used to (bb creams and such) so the next day I tried adding a half pump of the primer to one pump of the foundation and bingo – a perfect blend for me. I think the shade Buff might have also worked for me since it is winter and I am extremely pale.

I must also talk about the quality of packaging here. They are in beautiful matte glass bottles with chrome finish caps and the pumps are very high quality – you can control the amount you pump out and it doesn’t leak at and stays clean inside the cap.

Liquid Lip – These come in 8 gorgeous shades, all named after celebrities / friends of Gwyneth Paltrow. Because it seems like everyone is coming out with liquid lipsticks lately, I assumed these would be similar, considering their name, but they aren’t really. They are more like an extremely pigmented and long-wearing lip gloss, or lip stain really… They don’t “set” like a typical liquid lipstick, they stay shiny and moisturizing. The base is made of cold-pressed oils and a fruit stem cell serum, so not sticky at all. They have a wide doe foot applicator that pulls a lot of product from the tube so you have to be careful when applying, especially with the darker shades. I was really happy with the color pay-off of these. They are just so vibrant and fun! They are comfortable to wear, but they did transfer to my teeth quite easily so be aware of that. Other than that though these are beautiful and could also be worn for dimension over a matte lipstick too.

Here I am wearing Gwyneth, one of my favorite shades from the collection.

Juice Beauty Sheer Lip Gloss in 03 Naked

Sheer Lip Gloss – A similar formula to the liquid lip but even more shiny and moisturizing. It contains vegetable glycerin, jojoba & phospholipids and sheer pigments from pomegranate and rose. There are three shades of this and the one I tried (swatched above) is Naked. It doesn’t excite me as much as the other products, but I must say it is a great layering piece, a staple, like a great pair of jeans. It looks beautiful over the luminous lip crayon, especially.

Juice Beauty Luminous Lip Crayon in 12 Malibu

Luminous Lip Crayon – I only got one of these to try out but it will probably be the one I use most out of all these lip products! I love the creamy, light-weight formula and this shade, Malibu, is perfect for my everyday look. It does come in 8 shades, so I can’t speak for all the other ones, but this one is the perfect nude rose. It has just a bit of shine, not too much and softens and hydrates lips with mango seed butter.

Juice Beauty Satin Lip Cream Swatches - Rose, Napa, Blush, Merlot

Satin Lip Cream – These come in such pretty gunmetal-finish tubes. They feel weighty and glamorous to hold. They come in 8 shades and I tried Rosé, Napa, Blush, and Merlot. They were all pretty much what I expected them to be but Merlot is a much brighter red than it appears in the tube…its actually a perfect Valentine’s Day red. I LOVE the formula of these – smooth, satiny, pigmented, and almost plumping with all the hydration. It wears for a long time and didn’t seem to feather on me. I’ll wear these a lot.

Ultra-Natural Mascara – I honestly wasn’t a fan of their first mascara from a few years ago, so I was apprehensive about this one. It surprised me though. It is a rich black formula that added volume and length. I like the spiral shaped brush and it was very buildable also. It wore well over the course of the day and didn’t have any fall-out. The only thing bad I have to say is that after about the third or fourth time I used it, it was starting to gunk up a bit and get too much product on the brush. I think this is more a problem of me putting it back in the tube too quickly perhaps? It is a really long, slender tube so maybe that sort of design requires being a bit more careful. Overall, this is a great all-natural mascara.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed these swatches and my mini reviews. Have you tried anything from the new Phyto-Pigments collection? I’d love to hear your thoughts. I hope you’re all having a great weekend and if you’re snowed in, stay warm and safe! xo – Naomi

Thank you! You’re one of the only bloggers I’ve found who has swatches of these products actually on and I’m so grateful! I even chatted with Juice’s PR rep and they don’t have swatches on models. Thanks for sharing them!

Yes, I have combination/dry skin and love this primer. However it is not a replacement for moisturizer. Always moisturize before you prime 🙂
