When I saw Rituel de Fille’s latest collection, Night Visions, I couldn’t wait to try these colors. The collection is inspired by the moody shades of dusk, the colors of the land and sky under the moon at midnight. Don’t get me wrong, I love my baby pinks and nudes, but I am always excited to try a bold and unusual lip color – especially in the fall!
Their Forbidden Lipstick in Night Wanderer is deep purple in the tube, but almost black when applied. It might look a little intimidating, but because it is a true matte formula I feel it can actually be worn as a neutral – and as you’ll see in some of the photos, it creates a perfect base for a layered glossier look too. For these photos I also used their new Ash and Amber Eye Soot in Sigil on my lids. It is the perfect partner to Night Wanderer because it helps to soften the look with such a bold lip and keep it from being too gothic (nothing wrong with gothic, but its not quite what I’m going for here). Also, I felt this look called for a few “double exposures.”
Their description for these two colors is so beautiful I just have to share it here:
Darkness falls, the horizon line glowing with ephemeral glints of warm, pale gold. The sky deepens to a blackened purple just as the stars reveal themselves. Cool autumnal air slinks over skin and flicks candlelight in the first intoxicating moments of evening. This is Night Visions, a collection inspired by this uniquely powerful moment of transformation, in shades that capture the final glimmers of night.
Night Wanderer – A blackened byzantium purple with the subtlest warm glints. This is the color of wildflower fields a midnight, softly illuminated by a haloed moon.
Sigil – A warm champagne gold with a hint of pale pink. Sigil brings light to any eye color, and can be worn as an all-over wash, a highlight, or an accent liner.
Though this lipstick is matte, I didn’t find it drying. The ash and ember eye soot is like a combination of a cream and regular shadow. It blended over my lids very easily even though I was already wearing a tiny bit of light brown shadow. For this look I wore barely any mascara and also used quite a bit of highlighter over the high points of my face to create more of a glow on my skin – I used Mary-Lou Manizer by theBalm.
These are cruelty free and made with 99% natural ingredients. Synthetic dye free. Synthetic fragrance free. Paraben free. Phthalate free. Sulfate free.
Because I had to see what this lipstick looked like with a gloss over it I chose to make it more purple and used Au Naturale’s gloss in Wild Lotus on top, concentrating most of the color in the middle for a slight ombre look.
As you can see there are definitely a few ways to wear this color. You could also use a fuchsia gloss over it to create a brighter look. Or you could mix it with another of their lipsticks like Against Nature for a one of a kind matte color.
These colors certainly embody something otherworldly and inspire me to get creative and play which is what makeup is all about! I hope you enjoyed this post and that you’re all having a relaxing Labor Day weekend. xo – Naomi
P.S. You can see a few other Rituel de Fille items in last year’s post on purple makeup.
