Today I’m taking a look at Osmia Organics natural perfumes, as promised. If you missed yesterday’s post in which I review their Luster Lip Gloss and Gentle Foaming Cleanser check it out here. I was sent sample vials of Prima, Blum, Posso, Bria, and Teale. Osmia natural perfumes are an absolute delight and are made by hand in small batches with essential oils, absolutes, and CO2 extracts. You can read more in depth about those here. They aren’t overpowering, and last about 2-4 hours which I love. If you’re looking for natural scents that are more creative and have more layers than the typical soliflore (of a single flower) then you absolutely must check these out. Not that there is anything wrong with soliflores, but it just depends on what you’re in the mood for. Here are the ones that I tried and would definitely recommend. I love them all for different reasons, and on different days.
Prima: I love the gentle sweetness of this scent. It was “inspired by the smell of the dark, rich soil as it emerges from under the Colorado snow in the early spring – vital and ready to push up tender green shoots.” It is also described on their site as the smell of new beginnings, roots, fresh, new life. I would say that is a perfect description for it. It also has a layer of delicate spice, which would be the tiny swirl of Saffron oil, making it quite beautiful to behold. I chose to include this in the natural perfume special section of Sweet Violet Bride, Issue 1.
Blum: This scent is very romantic and feminine and conjures walking through a garden on a warm summer night. It has a gentle vanilla base with a twist of earthy angelica, and a heart of honeysucke, orange blossom, and neroli. A quiet ginger note on top gives a very gentle spice. It is vegan & cruelty-free. Blum makes me want to put on a flowy frock and saunter through a garden path with a vine of flowers in my hair.
Posso: Crisp, clean, calm. That is how I feel when I smell Posso. This scent was originally developed as an aromatherapy blend comprising oils carefully chosen to support self-confidence and ease feelings of insecurity. As an entrepreneur this is a fabulous scent to own. Posso translates to “I can” in Italian. It contains a base of violet leaf (love that), frankincense, Bulgarian rose absolute, lemon balm, grapefruit, and Virginia cedarwood. Personally, every time I close my eyes and inhale this one I picture myself in a bright Italian kitchen on a spring day, the windows open to a beautiful view.
Bria: This one also smells slightly floral and pretty. It was initially developed as an aromatherapy blend for extreme physical fatigue and contains sandalwood, frankincense, jasmine (the distinct floral I’m picking up on), and clove to create the heart of it. Energizing top notes include pine, spruce, and coriander. Bria is a twist on the word brio, which means liveliness or vivacity. Overall it creates a beautiful bouquet that I keep coming back to in order to seek out its different layers.
Ingredients: organic, golden jojoba oil, steam-fractionated coconut oil, and a proprietary blend of essential oils, CO2 extracts, and absolutes
Perfume Concentrates $150 for 0.48 oz.
Teale: I went through a phase for about three years straight when I was obsessed with the color turquoise / teale, and also the phycology of synesthesia. For those who are unfamiliar, synesthesia is when one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another (as when hearing a sound produces the visualization of a color). I would often, and still sometimes am, overcome by seeing a particular color when I taste or smell something, or the other way around and always wondered what turquoise smelled like. This perfume captures it quite well I think (though I also see fuchsia when I smell it – can’t explain it, just do) and has a bright, slightly spicy floral scent that is uplifting and evocative of the sky and dessert sunsets. Ginger lily and ylang are at the heart of this creative perfume.
I hope you’ve become intrigued by Osmia Organics and will perhaps find your new favorite natural perfume! Until next time, love and light! xo – Naomi
